As much as the battle between morning and evening news stations increases the level of competition rises. Battling is a positive side in any aspect because it energizes, arouses, motivates and may result in better performance. The negative thing is that there is always a looser. For instance, Morning News “Good Morning America” and CBS’s Evening News, face huge competitive challenge in its struggle to attract more viewers for higher ratings. Previous researches have shown that the primary factor of the higher ratings depends on people’s meters and events occurred around us. Morning News “GMA” for the week April 16, 2007 had an extensive coverage of the mass shootings at Virginia Tech having 800,000 total viewers. Incredibly, the CBS’s Evening News with Katie Couric delivered just 6,570,000 viewers. When I mention rating is often referring to Nielsen Rating that measure the number of viewers of household tuned to a television program in a particular time during a week. This is done by calculating and dividing the number of viewers, or households by the total number of estimated available households, viewers, listeners possible.
What I see is that rating recently to both news
stations becomes up and down. The fact
of my being a broadcast journalist and interact within a week with newspapers
and television, since both have the specific purposes I know the methods that
are used to produce and present news in which are incredible. But I believe
that the GMA in the future will not have the same audience as the CBS’s Evening
News in which will continue to be the thrilling of American News since its
money depends upon the size of the audience. Also for the future of CBS’s
Evening News the owner has a huge appetite. He sees the news industry a huge
profit in politics and the business and rating is the biggest concern since it
brings employees both a huge profit in the politic and to the business. When I
mention the owner of the big corporation meaning power and the money in which
are found only to one democratic country as the U.S.A I mention the politic
because I believe that the U.S’s democracy relies on people’s opinion and news
stations are a great source to control the democracy of our country that is
wealth, all well and good for people. Enormous profits are when the producer
controls the consumers’ desire to buy. The president of this news station Sean
McManus said in a statement, “I am more concerned for the year 2007, 2008, 2008
ratings than 2006. When it comes to competition CBS’s Evening News station
struggle to have skills and therefore understand the likes of people and
attitudes to manage well the business. Previous researches have shown that many
viewers engage with this newscast for many reasons. The first reason is that
viewers believe that this station gives them the news they need to know
quickly. They before dinner watch news that happens during the day whereas the
Morning News “Good Morning America” would not do. For the reason that, CBS’s news station
reporters stand in front of empty buildings to report news that happened there
during the day having the ability to reach a huge audience of different ages.
Viewers love to see live reports. What's more, they are of different ages and
most of them are female18-to 34 years that regardless of education or economic
status spend more than any other age or group gender. Viewers also make or
influence the major buying decisions in their household. The “GMA” viewers most
of them are elderly and adore talented anchors Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts,
who both have a voice that relates to the subject that they speak on. They both
seem to have the desire to become the best that they can be by promoting a
family environment that is by hiring celebrities, comedians, and politicians to
attract these rating. But the thing is that this news station ‘Good Morning
America” is more like entertainment show for the purpose of attracting higher
ratings and has no real value in the way of learning news. For the reason that, millions of young people
rush to get at work early in the morning and really don’t have time to be
hooked and watch the very interesting story that is going to be shown at the
end of segment. Furthermore, viewers engage with CBS’s Evening News because
they like presenters. The owner of CBS’s Evening News Station Corporations has
and will anticipate in giving as millions of advertising dollars to presenters
for a higher rating. One example is when CBS’s Evening News offered to Katie Couric
to work as their news anchor of the most expensive salary to $ 10 million
promotional campaign and with a $ 15 million annual salary which is the biggest
story in network news of 2006. CBS’s Evening News collected $ 15 million in the
first eight months of 2006, a 3% increase over the previous year. Projecting through
the end of the year CBS’s Evening News would collect and estimated $ 172
million. Loyal viewers of Couric migrate from morning news to evening to watch
Katie. The owner of this station will take care of this demand in the future.
Let me tell you something. Let me take two people, the first person small,
frail average looking and carries a little body fat, and the other person
strong, well groomed, and good looking powerful body. Now, these two people are
of equal intelligence, personalities and attitudes. The question is who would
be the top presenter of this business? The best of course will be the person in
the best shape because it is expected. Appearance of people is critical to the
future of our nation. It has become more admirable and respectful. This has
made viewers easier to drown to these people having these traits and listen
more to what they say. This is very true because the feeling is the same for
every other creature in the animal world. For example, larger wolves in a pack
will eat first. Likewise, viewers are engaged to this news station because they
have received worthy stories. They trust CBS’s specific news source that may be
concerned of turning to called station of record. College students, and
faculties, often record world stories related to their academic programs such
as the politic, business, biology, anatomy and physic. There is no possibility
to record them in the morning while are inside the class. Viewers also prefer
how this news station packages and reports the news. Comparing these two news
stations, I have analyzed the language of headlines from many points of view
such as grammatically, and stylistically. Headlines are never puzzling and
difficult to understand and this has a strong impact on viewers. I can
distinguish these two news stations between headlines in which give the summary
of the news story. CBS’s Evening News, use the right words and phrase to
certain story in which has satisfied people. For instance, on January 8, 2007
the headline, “Genocide Charges Against Saddam Dropped” in its top story.
That
video was about how Iraqis might react to the U.S’s troop surge rather than
about the genocide charges against Hussein. In short term, this station use a
wide vocabulary and standards English. Besides, the owner of this station said
that in the future he will make another giant step towards providing CBS’s
Evening News content to people wherever they are, in their homes, in their
offices, in their cars, on their computer or on their cell phones. This news
station makes decision with electronic companies toward interested huge profit
of both companies. Related to this, the apple company is releasing this fall an
apple television channel. It is because
the old Ipod is not a complete substitute of television. I will be happy to
have this new Ipod in my pocket when the television is not available. This new
Ipod will help me to watch television programs in the same way I am at home
sitting in front of my television. The apple television channel will bring new
attention and the audience eventually will continue grow. For example, when i
spoke for ratings I also did not count the viewers of prisons, restaurants and
colleges. By having this new Ipod I will account them. Competition from the
cable and the internet will never loss the television news audience. If I would
be interested to watch to the cable television an event happening during the
day I wouldn’t be able to concentrate myself to watch it for hours to this new
Ipod. The reason why is because looking for hours to this new Ipod screen that
is below television level for sure will cause eyes damage. Another reason is
that disrupted environments where we will use Ipods would not let us concentrate
ourselves for hours, so that this wouldn’t be the same as watching news that
varies of fifteen minutes packages. To conclude, CBS’s Evening News will take
care of their business by giving people the option to watch worthy news by
grasping each other’s emotional support meant for satisfaction and a higher rating.
